What do you think of packing cubes? Are they essential to keep you well organized while traveling? Or do they merely add extra unwanted bulk to your luggage? Now on Kickstarter, this innovative and seven-piece kit comes with all kinds of different designs that will appeal to anyone who likes to get everything in order and well packed before a trip.
Vasco travel packing cubes set: design and features
The Vasco travel organizers come in seven separate pieces, but really, they come in two parts. The first part is a four-strong pack of very specific organizers; one bag for shoes, another for cosmetics/wash gear, one for cables and electronics, and another dedicated travel wallet for storing passports, tickets etc. The other three are packing cubes designed to aid packing and, just as importantly, compression so you can pack efficiently. Three different sizes are supplied, and each has a lightweight netting design with zips around three sides.
Vasco travel packing cubes set: packing cubes
The packing cubes are what they are. There are no special features, and although they are well-designed, they are of limited use in TravGear’s opinion. However, that’s not to say that some are not useful sometimes, particularly the largest packing cube, which proved handy for compressing ironed shirts on business trips.

The more organizationally minded bags are of much more interest, though some more than others. Does anyone need a special bag for shoes? What’s wrong with a plastic bag? Shoes get dirty; do you really want to scrub clean a packing cube when you get home from a trip? However, the other three are useful. A cosmetics bag for storing razors, toothbrushes and other wash gear in a travel-friendly size. TravGear also found the cables and electronics bag handy, though it only really works if you have a Kindle or an iPad mini (or similar-sized 10-inch tablet). The travel wallet has space for nine credit cards, a useful pouch for storing a passport, and even a small netting bag for storing coins. It also has a pen loop. Handy, but hardly essential.
Vasco travel organizers: summary
Packing cubes seem like a good idea to some people, and completely pointless to others. This system doesn’t change TravGear’s point of view on packing cubes, and in truth, there are only two or three of the seven pouches supplied that you would use on any trip. However, they are well designed and well made, and if you’re into this kind of organizational thinking, Vasco has come up with an excellent product that you should consider. It’s definitely a step up from the usual poor quality packing cubes.
