REVIEWED: LG Gram 17Z990 Ultra-Lightweight Laptop
Weighing just 1.3 kg/2.95 lbs, is this the ultimate ultra-light laptop?
What laptop are you taking on business trips? An Apple MacBook Air. Microsoft Surface Book 2? Huawei MateBook X Pro? Those three are some of the finest lightweight laptops around, and hoping to join them is the LG gram, a laptop weighing a mere 1.3 kg/2.95 lbs.
LG Gram 17Z990: size and build
Although it’s a 17-inch laptop, the 17Z990 has the footprint of a 15.6-inch laptop thanks to a super-slim bezel. It measures 15×10.5×0.7 inches and weighs 2.95 lbs/1.3 kg. That’s going to appeal to business travellers, of course, but so should its drop-proof, dust-proof and freeze-proof design.
LG Gram 17Z990: specs
Despite that tiny size (it’s the lightest 17-inch laptop so far), the 17Z990 somehow manages to have a battery that lasts 20 hours. It runs Windows 10 Home using an 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor and has a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. It’s also got a fingerprint reader and a 256GB solid-state drive.
LG Gram 17Z990: in use
The 17Z990 is just so, so light. TravGear managed to lift it up with one hand just by lifting the corner of the keyboard. However, when used on a desktop, it seemed sturdy and the keys appeared well-spaced, while its backlit keyboard with two brightness settings gives an impressively subtle control that will be useful in airline cabins. In fact, the only disappointing aspect of the 17Z990 is its thoroughly dull grey colour. Something this ground-breaking should look way better.
