REVIEWED: Edifier MP100 portable speaker
With a 20-hour battery life, a travel-friendly design and bold sonics from a palm-sized speaker, this wireless wonder impresses
With a ton of Bluetooth speakers to choose from, it can be difficult to know which one to buy. Here’s one that’s both travel friendly, extremely compact, and impresses both on design and sound quality.
Lightweight, compact design
A dust-proof and splash-proof Bluetooth speaker, the 87x87x40mm Edifier MP100 weighs a mere 21g. It’s also of a rather flat design, fitting easily into a palm. There is a carabiner on top for attaching to the outside of a backpack or possibly even a belt clip. However, this carabiner is not of very impressive quality.
At 20 hours, the MP100 does have a significantly longer-lasting battery (at 1,500mAh) than most portable speakers. It’s also easy enough to link to in our test; simply switch it on (after recharging it via microUSB), and it goes into pairing mode. Later on that day, the MP100 linked automatically to the same phone when we switched it on.
Available in blue, yellow, green, our review sample of the latter is ideal for travel largely because it’s just so darned light weight. It’s also really easy to pack, which could make it a great option for business travellers looking for a little more audio power from a laptop – driven presentation. We also found it to be really useful for making hands-free calls at a desk, which are just some more uses for mobile working. However, it does lack an internal microphone.
However, what we like most about theEdifier MP100 is its microSD card slot. Able to take micro SD cards up to 64GB in size, that means it can act as a standalone mini-stereo system. For anyone who wants a travel-friendly Bluetooth speaker that can be left on its own for hours at a time – perhaps for a party, or in a hotel room during a work session – the Edifier MP100 is a great value gadget.
