REVIEWED: Urban Armor Gear Trooper Series case for iPhone 7
A secret credit card compartment for four cards graces this great value drop-proof jacket for iPhone 7
Apple Pay, blah blah blah. Yes, contactless payments are great, but who doesn’t travel with cards? Cue UAG’s Trooper Series, masculine armour for iPhone 7 & 7 Plus that has a secret compartment for credit cards and ID.
Hard travel
Cashless, card-less, paper-less travel is a great idea. And it doesn’t exist. On a recent trip from London to LA, I had my boarding pass on Apple Wallet and all of my hotel and onward travel details on Dropbox. When I landed at LAX and switched on my phone, it reverted to the ‘Hello’ screens. Then it wanted WiFi passwords to set-up, and wouldn’t connect to the local mobile network. What saved me was the only hard currency I had left – my credit cards.
Just 63g
So the a phone case-cum-wallet is worthy of serious consideration (besides, who wants to put a credit cards in a pocket while traveling), and the UAG Trooper Series offers a seriously light touch. Weighing just 63g, it has five layers of protection (armour frame, shock-resistant core, polycarbonate shear plate, alloy metal hardware and impact-resistant rubber), while the compartment on the rear can take four credit cards.
Great fit
It proved a great fit for iPhone 7, with covers for the on/off switch and volume rockers, and gaps for the speakers, Apple Lighting and the mute button. On the rear the camera cutout is large enough to prevent any flash problems when using the camera. Simple, functional, lightweight and at no times over-engineered (like so many iPhone cases), this protective case with room for credit cards is ideal for the demands travel.
