PREVIEWED: Ostry KL06 earphones
CE China, Shenzhen: With a rich sound and plenty of clarity, these titanium-covered in-ears impress
Wandering the floors of the CE China exhibition in Shenzhen TravGear came across many gems just aching to accompany on a long journey. Encrypted phones, virtual reality goggles … and these great-looking (and sounding) earphones from Shenzhen, China-based Ostry.
Shenzhen-made
“We make all the components ourselves here in Shenzhen,” Vicky Lam from Ostry told me. “Apart from the 3.5mm connectors, which is really rare in China.” She’s right; a few kilometres further into Shenzhen is Huaqiang Bei, a region of vast warehouse-like malls where the city’s super-factories pour endless components into.
Weighty drivers
Around 90 percent of the world’s electronics are made in Shenzhen, so it’s hardly surprising that some of the products are of excellent quality. Ostry’s KL06 earphones do have weighty drivers, but they felt comfortable in the ear and delivered fully rounded sonics. But our favourite bit? According to the blurb at CE China, the KL06 is inspired by ‘fortress besieged of ancient battlefield’. How this happened, we do not know, but it sounds awesome!
