REVIEWED: Gear4 D3O BookCase for iPhone
With room for a credit card, this wraparound wallet adds proper protection
What is it with wallet cases for phones? One-trick ponies, the lot of ’em. Here’s the first we’ve seen that adds valuable impact protection as well as providing room for a credit card.
Clever design
The D3O BookCase is slightly mis-named (it looks nothing like a book), but it’s a new chapter in case design. The key feature is the simple, see-through bumper design that uses D3O material for tried-and-tested protection against being dropped, principally by dissipating the impact away from the brittle corners.
Magnetic appeal
There’s a camera cutout, and further gaps for al the other buttons (we tested the iPhone 5/5S version, though it’s also made for the iPhone 6/6s/6s Plus and Samsung S6, S6 Edge/S6 Edge Plus), but there’s more to the whole design. That card holding inner sleeve uses a magnetic strap to attach to the main body, while contorting slightly to prop-up the phone for watching a video.
Only one card
A valuable double-act design it might be, but the D3O BookCase does have one slight drawback; it does only take one card. Try as we might, we couldn’t get another in there (well, we could, but the case wouldn’t close), which makes this a case best thought of as ideal for a night on the town, rather than a week out of the country.
