REVIEWED: Gleneagles Traveller Holdall
Gorgeous leather holdall with excellent build quality that’s ideal for weekends away
Are you a holdall kind of a traveller? We at TravGear must confess that we’re not. While we’re not averse to good carry-on luggage, the versatility of a rucksack is hard to beat. However, this holdall from Gleneagles – inspired by the iconic 1920s chateau – makes a great luxury option.
Full-grain leather
The caveat is this; you must travel by car. OK, so that’s not completely essential, but holdalls are for all about capacity rather than comfort, There’s an excellent leather strap on the full-grain leather Gleneagles, and the handles are strong and well-made, but it’s what you can get in a holdall that makes them standout.
Unbeatable build
Amid unbeatable build quality, strong stitching and a nice design that sees embossed external crackle motif bands rippled down the sides, the Gleneagles is also pretty functional. We took it to a Welsh country house – home-turf for luggage like this, no doubts there – and were able to get clothes inside it for two people as well as a couple of coats.
Inside story
The interior of the Gleneagles is just as impressive, with a small (and very useful) key clip alongside a useful zip pocket sized big enough for paperwork, passports and tickets etc. What’s missing – as with all holdalls – are compartments, but then that’s what the matching, separate Traveller Wash Bag is for. While you’re at it, the Traveller Luggage Tag wouldn’t go amiss either; there’s even a tag on the outside of the excellent and surprisingly lightweight Traveller Holdall just waiting to be used. Available in black and brown.
