REVIEWED: The Night Sky This Month podcast

This monthly Jodrell Bank podcast makes the perfect travel companion when whenever you find yourself beneath a black sky

the-night-sky-this-monthApps are fabulous and so clever, but they do take your attention away from the night sky; don’t become a victim of technology and point out stars and planets onto friends on your smartphone screen – always try to correlate what you see on the screen with what’s in front of you in the sky.

Monthly release

Helping you do just that is The Night Sky This Month podcast from the Jodrell Bank Centre of Astrophysics, a free monthly podcast that lets you know some of the things that you can look out for in the night sky that month. The ten-minute podcast, released early in the month and presented by astronomer Ian Morison, keep things simple, telling listeners which major constellations are rising and setting after sunset, and how to find the planets.

Both hemispheres

Listen to it each month and you’ll forever know where the planets are on their journey around the Sun, as well as being able to pick out constellations, double stars, globular clusters and galaxies. Take it on your travels and you’ll never look at the sky in the same way again. While the main section covers the Northern Hemisphere, there’s a short South Hemisphere guide, too.
