REVIEWED: PowerSkin PoP’n 2 PP4000 battery charger with Apple Lightning
This slim 108g gadget suckers to the back of an iPhone 5s and recharges an iPad, too
The chance to top-up on battery power while traveling is hard to resist, but wraparound cases for smartphones appeal to relatively few despite their obvious advantages. So how about a standard portable battery that can occasionally attach to your phone?
Apple Lightning adaptor
The PowerSkin PoP’n 2 PP4000 is a bit of mouthful and a handful, too. At its most basic it’s a large 4,000mAh battery that’s good for a complete recharge of an iPhone 5s, despite weighing just 108g. It recharges and outputs power via two micro USB slots, though there’s a nice trick that makes it Apple-wise; a clip-on microUSB to Apple Lightning U-bend adaptor that curls around the bottom. However, that could be easy to lose. Its microUSB output is rated 2.1-amps, so can recharge an iPad, too.
Five colours
Available in white, pink, black, yellow, blue or green, the real trick of the PowerSkin PoP’n 2 PP4000 is that one side is covered in tiny suckers that cling to the back of an iPhone. It’s easy to do and thoroughly trustworthy – it’s not going to fall off – and it roughly doubles the weight of an iPhone 5s. Those suckers do leave a mark, but nothing that can’t be wiped-off very easily. It’s also available for the iPhone 6/Plus/5C and for Android smartphones.
Power & protection
A great solution to the problem of what to do with a portable battery while it recharges, the PowerSkin PoP’n 2 PP4000 is a nicely designed and good value way of travelling with a serious-sized battery. Adding power and protection, the PowerSkin PoP’n 2 PP4000’s capability with tablets as well as smartphones makes it smart travel tech.
