Sony’s third smart watch, but the first powered by the new Android Wear operating system, the waterproof SWR50 – available in black or yellow – has a 1.6-inch, 320×320 pixel display, the usual GPS, gyroscope and compass, and an accelerometer for counting – you guessed it – how many stairs you climb each day.

This smart watch records everything you do, though on trips it’s likely to be most useful for calculating the distance left to your destination, giving notifications of what’s going on with your smartphone (incoming calls and messages), relaying reminders, live weather updates and – best of all – Google Now so you can ask the oracle about bus, train and plane times.

Price as previewed: €229
