In the wake of our review of the DSC-QX10, Sony used Berlin to launch two more lens-style cameras to its line-up, including the DSC-QX1 and this DSC-QX30.

Essentially a lens that connects over Bluetooth to a smartphone or tablet to create a viewfinder, but can also be used separately – albeit with a bit of guesswork – the DSC-QX30 uses the same 30x optical zoom Sony G Lens, Optical Steadyshot and auto-focus features found in Sony’s Cyber-shot compact cameras. Which, frankly, no-one buys anymore.

The arrival of the DSC-QX30, whose killer feature is a whopping 30x optical zoom, is timed to coincide with an upgrade to Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile app – an integral control hub for these lens-style cameras – for quicker and more stable wireless connections.

Price as previewed: £249
