It’s made for a life on the road, but on audio alone this travel speaker doesn’t impress

Smaller and more pocket-friendly than the Jawbone Jambox – probably its main competitor – the Soundmatters FoxL V2 comes with a wobbly desktop stand and small rubber carpet to stop it moving about if your tunes are bass-driven and boomy.
Compromised design
That unusual idea does work, but hints at a compromised design. Hands-free calling is a feature too far, with muffled voices reflecting the FoxL’s distinct lack of bright tones and treble detailing in music, too. It’s not exactly a pocket rocket.
Not loud enough
It doesn’t go loud enough to impress beyond a hotel room, but the Soundmatters FoxL V2’s compact and curved 142x36x56mm, 268g design – complete with velvet carry bag and a mini USB charging array – makes this handy if travelling light.
